| - Gate Of Heaven Synagogue in this fort city of Thane is 35 kms. from Bombay . Jews lived here since the 16th century. Most of the Jews held positions in military regimes and were also responsible in constructing the famous Parsik Tunnel and GIP railway between Bombay and Thane. During the reorganization of the city, a massive road widening project revealed a 500 year-old Jewish cemetery in the heart of the city that was utilized for a service road.
