SZCZUCIN: Małopolskie

50°18' N, 21°04' E, 53 miles ENE of Kraków, 20 miles N of Tarnów, 10 miles NNE of Dąbrowa Tarnowska. In N Galicia, on the Vistula (Wisła) River. Jewish population:  566 (in 1880). Gmina Szczucin is an urban-rural administrative district in Dąbrowa powiat, Lesser Poland Voivodeship in southern Poland with its seat in the town of Szczucin, 16 km (10 mi) N of Dąbrowa Tarnowska and 85 km (53 mi) E of the regional capital Kraków. (Szczucin gained town status on 1 January 2009 with a 2006 population of 13,369. Beside the town of Szczucin, the gmina contains the villages and settlements of Borki, Brzezówka, Czajków, Dąbrowica, Delastowice, Kąty, Kępa, Łabuzówka, Laskówka Delastowska, Lechówka, Łęka Szczucińska, Lubasz, Maniów, Podlesie, Podradwanie, Radwan, Rynek, Skrzynka, Słupiec, Suchy Grunt, Świdrówka, Wieżyce, Wola Szczucińska, Zabrnie, Zakępie, Zalesie and Załuże. CEMETERY ul 1 Maja. Dates from the first half of the 19th century and destroyed during WWII. On the 0.3 ha remaining, about 50 tombstones are still legible with inscriptions in Hebrew. The cemetery is neglected and partially covered with forest.  photos [February 2010]
