Alternate names: Bačka Topola [Serb], Topolya [Hun], Topolo. 45°49' N, 19°38' E, in N Serbia, 20 miles S of Subotica (Szabadka), 25 miles E of Sombor (Zombor). Encyclopedia of Jewish Life (2001), p. 68: "Backa Topola". A Jewish community dated from 1770 with a synagogue from 1863 that was demolished in 1950. The 1920 rabbi's house with Mogen David in a roundel above the main entrance is now a library.
