This city has been the administrative center of the district since 1950, and is an important railway junction. No citizens remained in Radviliškis after the 1708-1710plague. The Liepāja-Romny railway line, crossing the town and built in 1870 and Radviliškis-Daugavpils line built in 1873 triggered growth of the town. Railwaymen constituted the majority of the residents. HOLOCAUST: At the beginning of July, all the Jews were relocated to one neighbourhood in Zagare, which was declared a ghetto and cordoned off by an unguarded barbed wire fence. Surviving Jews were brought to Zagare from Kursenai, Papile, Tryskiai, Joniskis, Zeimelis, Kriukai, Radviliskis, Saukenai, Kelme, Tirksliai, Krakes, Joniskelis, Linkuva, Pakruojis, Laukuvas, Lygumai and other places. A total of seven thousand Jews were gathered in the ghetto during this period. [March 2009]
