Located at 53°42' N, 28°26' E in Igumen uezd, Minsk guberniya-Minsk Oblast, 37.9 miles ESE of Minsk.Alternate name: Chervyen' [Bel], Cherven [Rus], Igumen [Rus, until 1923], Eihumen [Yid], Ihumeń [Pol], Czerwień, Červień, Tscherwen, Cerven', Belarusian and Russian: Чэрвень. Known as Ігумен (Igumen) until 1923. 1900 Jewish population: 2,817. Photos of Holocaust memorial. Inscription: The Russian text on the manuscript euphemistically referring to "citizens" says: "Here rest the remains of more than 2000 Soviet citizens, shot in Cherven by the Fascist-German barbarians on 2 February 1942.". Cemetery: photos. Leaving the A244 approaching Cherven from the west, immediately on the right is the overgrown Jewish Cemetery with turkeys walking around. No maintenance or care. Many stones askew and weatherworn. Some contemporary gravestones exist although Jews no longer live there.
