Holy Sepulchre Cemetery: 2461 Lake Ave, Rochester, NY 14612. Founded: 1871; Caretaker: Robert J. Moore, Mgr of Information Services (or other staff member) 716-458-4110; Access: Gates close 5pm EST; 340 acres. This is a Catholic cemetery with unconsecrated areas for members of mixed marriages in Sections 23 South and 6, 7, 10, 12, and 20 North that holds a total of more than 200,000 burials. Office hours 9-4:30 M-F and 9-12 Saturday. Access via entrances off Lake Avenue and off Dewey Avenue. Mt. Hope Cemetery: 1133 Mt. Hope Avenue, Rochester 14642. Elmwood Avenue, Mt. Hope Avenue, The University of Rochester and the Genesee River bound the cemetery. Access from Mt. Hope Ave. Founded 1838 with earliest Jewish burial 1849. Contact Person: Carol at 716-473-2755. 375,000 people buried there. In approximately fifty years, the cemetery will probably be filled to capacity. Very small percentage of Jewishburials. 196 acres. Managing society: City of Rochester; Access: Gates close 6 p.m. daily. Additional care by Friends of Mt. Hope Cemetery, 791 Mt. Hope Ave, 716-461-3494. Cemetery office open M-F 8:30 - 3:30. In addition to the synagogues and burial societies using this cemetery, many unaffiliated Jews are buried in individual plots. 19th Century burial indexes have been largely microfilmed by the LDS.

To reach Cemetery take Interstate 390 to Exit 16A (West Henrietta Rd/Route 15). Follow Route 15 North for 1.1 miles. (Route 15 becomes Mt. Hope Ave.) Cemetery office is on left (west) side of road. Surveyed by Marjorie Searl on 12/7/96. Synagogues with Plots:

• City owned, they provide general maintenance: mowing grass and raking leaves. Individual families are responsible for maintaining their own families' plots. Temples purchased the lots from the cemetery so may need to contact them for number of plots bought. Some of the temples will only let temple members be buried in their section (probably due to limited space). Some are more flexible.
