- Congregation Beth Emeth Cemetery: The old Beth Emeth Cemetery is on a road off Route 144 in Delmar. The cemetery looks abandoned and very old. The piece of land is very poor as well. Some stones are in the woods. Streams have eroded the land on both sides of probably the oldest Jewish cemetery in Albany.
The newer one on Turner Lane dates from the 1860s and is very large (5 to 6,000 burials by estimate), but is in very good shape. This has lots of old German names in the older section. (Some are written in German.) [June 2002]
Old Beth Emeth Cemetery Listings and Inscriptions, compiled by Virginia C. Dolins and Harriet S. Gold. Schenectady, NY, April 1985. Small Collections in American Jewish Archives (AJA . American Jewish Archives, 3101 Clifton Ave. Cincinnati, Oh. The overall size of the cemetery is 57 feet wide by 85 feet deep. There is a center open area with graves in blocks on either side. A flagpole with open circular area is within the center of the cemetery. There are no paved roads within the cemetery.
