- A thriving Jewish community existed in Burgau during the Middle Ages until around 1634/35, when Jews were persecuted and banished from town and villages following the outbreak of the black plague. After the Thirty Years' War in Germany (1618-1648) the Jewish community ceased to exist in Burgau. But even thereafter, the cemetery known locally as "Am Judenbegräbnis", was used for some time by surrounding Jewish communities, including those in Binswangen, Buttenwiesen, Fischach and Hürben. Two gravestones were recorded as still having been there in 1725. Nowadays there is no trace to be seen of this former cemetery.
