Coat of arms of Oestrich-Winkel50°00′N 8°00′E, Oestrich-Winkel is a town in the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis in the Regierungsbezirk of Darmstadt in Hesse. population: 12,000. 1972 merger of previously self-governing communities of Mittelheim, Oestrich and Winkel and enlarged by Hallgarten's amalgamation into the town in 1977. The coordinates lie right in the constituent community of Winkel, whose name means "angle". The town lies 17 km W of Mainz. The region is known for wine production.

Neighboring communities: Oestrich-Winkel borders in the north on the town of Lorch and the communities of Welterod (Rhein-Lahn-Kreis in Rhineland-Palatinate), Heidenrod and Schlangenbad; in the east on the town of Eltville; in the south, across the Rhine, on the town of Ingelheim (Mainz-Bingen district in Rhineland-Palatinate) and in the west on the town of Geisenheim.
