Alemannia Judaica [Apr 2013]
Town website for cemetery: "The Jewish cemetery on the road to Feldberg /Gurtweil was leased in 1764 by the Jews and used from then on. At that time the property was approximately 1 km outside the city walls. Today, only three are of the gravestones in original condition in the cemetery. They date from the 18th century and survived the desecration of the cemetery by the Nazis. The right stone is "Breinele, wife of the Zvi," buried around 1793. The middle stone is "Brendel, wife of Seligmann" and left is "Alte Seligmann", buried in 1764. On Kristallnacht 09/10 November 1938, the cemetery was desecrated by the Nazis. The gravestones were sold by the Nazi mayor or used by urban construction crew to build a retaining wall at the Seiler mountain trail. After the war, a memorial was erected in the name of the person buried in the cemetery grounds. The offensive retaining wall was finally demolished again to bring back the gravestones at the Jewish cemetery can. An artist layered the pieces on to a memorial column. The cemetery can be visited by appointment, Friends of Jewish life in Tiengen. [Apr 2013]
